Sailing out of season

Sailing in autumn, winter or spring can also be a pleasure that will allow us to enjoy our journey and our favorite moorings without the crowds of summer and with maximum tranquility.

The only thing that we will need is a greater forecast and caution, since the temperatures are lower, the night falls earlier and the weather changes faster.

To navigate with all the guarantees it is advisable:

Plan and prepare the navigation thoroughly

Know the weather forecast

Bring the right equipment: warm clothes, raincoats, a change of clothes in case we get wet and the same protections against the sun as in summer (sun cream, sunglasses …)

  • Check that the boat is in perfect condition, although if you have sailed frequently in summer it should be:
    • Hatch and portlight tightness
    • Make sure the bathtub empties properly
    • Maneuver ready and in place
    • Safety and rescue equipment in correct condition and in its corresponding place
    • Anchoring to point
  • Check that we have sufficient fuel level
  • Know where we can call via phone, VHF … if we have any problem
  • Emptying the boat of all the summer bathroom accessories will make it easier for us to check and clean it thoroughly
  • Make sure that the navigation data we are using is correct
  • If the sea or wind condition worsens unexpectedly, seek refuge or port to hope that the situation improves
